Date: October 29, 2023
Rather predictable result when first ranked Chiba (8-1) defeated on the road 5th ranked Shiga L-Stars (4-5) 96-91 on Sunday. Chiba shot 34 for 46 from the free-throw line, while Shiga L-Stars only scored fifteen points from the stripe. Chiba forced 23 Shiga L-Stars turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Brandon Ashley (206-1994, college: Arizona) fired 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward Alex Davis (206-1992, college: Fresno St., agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. American-German power forward Ryan Kriener (208-1998, college: Iowa, agency: Pensack Sports) produced 30 points and American forward Justin Burrell (204-1988, college: St.John's) added 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shiga L-Stars' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Chiba have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Newly promoted Chiba maintains first position with 8-1 record, which they share with Fukuoka R. Loser Shiga L-Stars keep the fifth place with five games lost. Chiba will meet Aomori W. (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Shiga L-Stars will play against the league's second-placed Nishinomiya S. in Hyogo and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the B1 League just one year after relegation.
