Everything went according to plan when third ranked Kumamoto V. (6-3) beat at home 6th ranked Iwate (1-8) 78-70 on Saturday. Strangely Iwate outrebounded Kumamoto V. 35-20 including 24 on the defensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Center Jamel McLean (203-1988, college: Xavier) fired 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Terrance Woodbury (203-1987, college: Georgia) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. Woodbury is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Forward Kelvin Martin (196-1989, college: Charleston So.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and forward Nate Grimes (202-1996, college: Fresno St., agency: Agency) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Iwate players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kumamoto V. have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Iwate lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Niigata A.. Kumamoto V. will meet at home Ehime OV (#6) in the next round. Iwate will play against the league's leader Fukuoka R. and hope to win that game.
