Regular Season Round 5: Chiba Jets - Sendai 89ers 72-83

There was an upset when 3rd placed Chiba Jets (3-3) were defeated at home by seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (1-5) 83-72 on Saturday. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American Nathan Boothe (208-1994, college: Toledo) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Ukrainian center Volodymyr Gerun (208-1994, college: Portland) chipped in 11 points and 16 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. American forward Justyn Mutts (201-1999, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-1993) scored 23 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sendai 89ers left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Chiba Jets keep the third position with three games lost. They share it with Sea Horses M. and Yokohama BC. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chiba Jets will play again against Sendai 89ers and hope to secure a win.
