Regular Season Round 59: Shiga L-Stars - Tochigi Brex 68-81

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Shiga L-Stars (12-45) were defeated at home by third ranked Tochigi Brex (30-27) 81-68 on Sunday. Tochigi Brex dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Shiga L-Stars' 26. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Makoto Hiejima (190-1990) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists. American center Grant Jerrett (208-1993, college: Arizona) helped adding 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Tochigi Brex players scored in double figures. American forward DeQuan Jones (203-1990, college: Miami, FL) responded with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Kai Toews (188-1998, college: UNCW) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Tochigi Brex. Defending champion maintains third place with 30-27 record having ten points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Shiga L-Stars lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 45 games lost. Tochigi Brex will meet at home league's leader Chiba Jets in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shiga L-Stars will play against Kyoto H. (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
