Regular Season Round 59: Hokkaido L. - Sendai 89ers 86-74

Everything could happen in Sapporo at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Hokkaido L. and 8th ranked Sendai 89ers had identical 18-39 record. This time Hokkaido L. used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Sendai 86-74 on Sunday night. Hokkaido L. dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Sendai 89ers' 34. They outrebounded Sendai 89ers 37-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Australian power forward Samson Froling (212-2000, college: Creighton) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). American Nathan Boothe (206-1994, college: Toledo) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hokkaido L. maintains seventh place with 19-39 record. Sendai 89ers lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the eighth position with 40 games lost. Hokkaido L. will meet higher ranked Akita NH (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sendai 89ers will play against Gunma CT and hope to secure a win.
