Regular Season Round 57: Sendai 89ers - Alvark Tokyo 65-70

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Alvark Tokyo (42-14) beat on the road 7th ranked Sendai 89ers (18-38) 70-65 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-6. But Sendai 89ers won third quarter 28-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alvark Tokyo dominated on the defensive end, holding Sendai 89ers to just 6 points in first quarter. The former international forward Ryan Rossiter (204-1989, college: Siena) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Spanish Sebastian Saiz (205-1994, college: Ole Miss) accounted for 13 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Rashawn Thomas (203-1994, college: TAMUCC) added 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Sendai 89ers in the defeat. Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Alvark Tokyo. They maintain second place with 42-14 record having just four point less than leader Ryukyu GK. Sendai 89ers lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the seventh position with 38 games lost. Alvark Tokyo will meet league's leader Chiba Jets on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sendai 89ers will play against Hokkaido L. (#8) in Sapporo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
