Regular Season Round 54: Ibaraki R. - Sendai 89ers 94-71

Everything could happen in Mito at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Ibaraki R. and 6th ranked Sendai 89ers had identical 18-34 record. This time Ibaraki R. used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Sendai 94-71 on Sunday night. Ibaraki R. made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Sendai 89ers only scored ten points from the stripe. Ibaraki R. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Eric Jacobsen (208-1994, college: Arizona St.) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Kohei Fukuzawa (177-1993) supported him with 27 points (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). Four Ibaraki R. players scored in double figures. Even 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Rashawn Thomas (203-1994, college: TAMUCC) did not help to save the game for Sendai 89ers. His fellow American import forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ibaraki R. (19-34) moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Sendai 89ers dropped to the seventh position with 35 games lost. Ibaraki R. will meet at home league's leader Chiba Jets in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sendai 89ers will play against Akita NH (#4) and hope to secure a win.
