Regular Season Round 49: Ryukyu GK - Osaka E. 88-89

The most exciting game of round 49 in the B1 League took place in Okinawa. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of much higher ranked Ryukyu GK (37-11) to fifth ranked Osaka E. (22-26) 89-88 on Wednesday evening. Strangely Ryukyu GK outrebounded Osaka E. 33-21. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard DJ Newbill (193-1992, college: Penn St.) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners and power forward Sean OMara (208-1995, college: Xavier, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). At the losing side power forward Jack Cooley (206-1991, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and power forward Josh Duncan (203-1986) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Osaka E. moved-up to third place, which they share with Hitachi SRT. Ryukyu GK at the other side keeps the second position with 11 games lost. Osaka E. is looking forward to face Nagoya DD (#4) at home in the next round. Ryukyu GK will play against Kyoto H. and is hoping to win this game.
