Regular Season Round 49: Gifu - Tokyo Utd 66-73

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Gifu (19-31) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Tokyo Utd (30-20) 73-66 on Sunday. Tokyo Utd made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Gifu turnovers. Point guard Hiroki Higashi (185-1995) stepped up and scored 15 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American swingman Michael Craig (196-1991, college: Southern Miss) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws). At the losing side American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Noah Dahlman (202-1989, college: Wofford) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Tokyo Utd maintains sixth place with 30-20 record. Gifu lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 31 games lost. Tokyo Utd will meet at home higher ranked Kagoshima (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gifu will play against the league's leader Iwate (#1) and hope to secure a win.
