Regular Season Round 49: Saitama - Kanazawa 92-94

The most exciting game of round 49 in the B3 League took place in Saitama. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of much higher ranked Saitama (41-9) to twelfth ranked Kanazawa (16-34) 94-92 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Saitama. Kanazawa made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Saitama outrebounded Kanazawa 56-38 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Ukrainian forward Oleksandr Antypov (203-1995, agency: BIG) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Ukrainian point guard Igor Boyarkin (182-1995, agency: BIG) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. American power forward Ryan Watkins (206-1991, college: Boise St., agency: Slash Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized American center Will Creekmore (205-1989, college: Missouri St.) added 17 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kanazawa moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Tokyo HT. Saitama at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. Kanazawa is looking forward to face higher ranked Veertien Mie (#10) in Yokkaichi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saitama will play on the road against Yamaguchi (#15) and is hoping to win this game.
