Very important is a road loss of second ranked Tobol (15-13) against fourth ranked Astana (11-5) on Thursday night. Visiting Tobol was crushed by Astana in Nur-Sultan 84-51. Astana dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Tobol's 20. Astana forced 27 Tobol turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Tobol's players. Russian Valeriy Likhodey (205-1986) nailed 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Dmitriy Gavrilov (204-1986) accounted for 10 points and 5 rebounds. Astana's coach Oleg Kiselev felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Anton Bykov (200-1989) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and the former international point guard Shaim Kuanov (181-1991) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for Tobol in the defeat. Astana have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 11-5 record. Tobol lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the second position with 13 games lost. Astana will play against higher ranked Irbis (#3) in Almaty in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tobol will play on the road against Aktobe and hopes to get back on the winning track.
