Regular Season Round 39: Sichuan BW - Shandong H. 99-93

An interesting game took place in Sichuan where higher ranked Heroes (22-15) were upset on the court of seventeenth ranked Blue Whales (10-25) 99-93 on Friday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Heroes. Blue Whales made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Heroes outrebounded Blue Whales 55-42 including 40 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Jordan Crawford (193-1988, college: Xavier) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import point guard Marlain Veal (175-1996, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Troy Gillenwater (205-1988, college: NM State) who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Shiyan Gao (186-1996) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists respectively. Four Blue Whales and five Heroes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blue Whales maintains seventeenth place with 10-25 record. Loser Heroes keep the fifth position with 15 games lost. Blue Whales will meet at home higher ranked Sharks (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Heroes will play against Ducks in Beijing and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
