There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Gunma CT (23-17) was rolled over at home by fifth ranked Tochigi Brex (21-19) 81-55 on Wednesday. Tochigi Brex outrebounded Gunma CT 48-24 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Tongan-New Zealand Isaac Fotu (203-1993, college: Hawaii) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Makoto Hiejima (190-1990) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. Naturalized American forward Michael Parker (202-1981, college: Evergreen St.) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Trey McKinney-Jones (198-1990, college: Miami, FL) scored 10 points and 6 assists. Four Gunma CT players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Akita NH. Loser Gunma CT keeps the third position with 17 games lost. Tochigi Brex will meet at home league's leader Shimane SM in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gunma CT will play against the league's second-placed Kawasaki BT in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
