Regular Season Round 41: Veertien Mie - Gifu 90-85

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked Veertien Mie (15-27) beat 9th ranked Gifu (16-26) in Yokkaichi 90-85. Veertien Mie made 31-of-39 charity shots (79.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Gifu turnovers. Gifu was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Josh Martin (201-1995, college: Santa Clara) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Tucker Haymond (198-1994, college: W.Michigan) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line !!!). American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and Senegalese power forward Andre Sambou (203-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Veertien Mie maintains tenth place with 15-27 record. Gifu at the other side keeps the ninth position with 26 games lost. Veertien Mie will play against higher ranked Yokohama EX (#5) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gifu will play at home against Tachikawa (#15) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
