The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventh ranked Meralco Bolts' (5-4) home victory over 8th ranked Phoenix (4-7) in Manila 92-86 on Sunday. Meralco Bolts looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Phoenix's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Meralco Bolts made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American swingman KJ McDaniels (198-1993, college: Clemson) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks. Guard Aaron Black (185-1996) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. American forward DuVaughn Maxwell (201-1991, college: Hampton) answered with 29 points and 9 rebounds and guard Encho Serrano (183-1999) added 20 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Phoenix. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Meralco Bolts moved-up to sixth place, which they share with FiberXers. Phoenix at the other side keeps the eighth position with seven games lost.
