Regular Season Round 13: Meralco Bolts - Ginebra Kings 107-112
Date: March 1, 2023
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Manila: Ginebra Kings (#5) and Meralco Bolts (#6). Meralco Bolts were defeated at home 107-112 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Meralco Bolts. Ginebra Kings looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists. Naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-1989, college: Hawaii) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and American forward Justin Brownlee (197-1988, college: St.John's) chipped in 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American swingman KJ McDaniels (198-1993, college: Clemson) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and forward Allein Maliksi (191-1987) scored 23 points (made all of his eight free throws). Four Ginebra Kings and five Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. Meralco Bolts' coach Norman Black rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion (5-2) moved-up to fourth place. Meralco Bolts at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Ginebra Kings are looking forward to face Phoenix (#8) in Quezon in the next round. Meralco Bolts will play on the road against FiberXers in Makati and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
