Regular Season Round 8: Hotshots - Ginebra Kings 118-88

Undefeated Ginebra Kings (3-1) recorded its first loss in Pasig City on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by eighth ranked Hotshots (2-3) 118-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ginebra Kings. Hotshots dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Ginebra Kings' 40. Hotshots forced 21 Ginebra Kings turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American Antonio Hester (199-1990, college: Mobile, AL, agency: Rigorer Korea Agency) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 18 rebounds and 9 assists. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-1988) chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Hester is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Justin Brownlee (197-1988, college: St.John's) produced 22 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-1989, college: Hawaii) added 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Terrafirma Dyip. Defending champion Ginebra Kings keep the fifth position with one game lost. Hotshots is looking forward to face higher ranked NLEX RW (#4) in Makati City in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ginebra Kings will play at home against the league's leader SM Beermen and will have a slim chance for a victory.
