Regular Season Round 39: Akita NH - Sendai 89ers 61-67

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Akita NH (21-17) against seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (12-26) on Sunday night. Host Akita NH was defeated by Sendai 89ers in a tough game in Akita 61-67. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Akita NH. They outrebounded Akita NH 38-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Yasunori Aoki (180-1995) accounted for 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Steve Zack (211-1992, college: La Salle) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import Stanton Kidd (202-1992, college: Colorado St.) added 10 points respectively for Akita NH in the defeat. Newly promoted Sendai 89ers maintains seventh place with 12-26 record. Loser Akita NH dropped to the fourth position with 17 games lost. Sendai 89ers will meet at home league's second-placed Alvark Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Akita NH will play against Gunma CT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
