Regular Season Round 35: Nagasaki - Chiba 92-98

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Nagasaki (24-13) was defeated at home by second ranked Chiba (28-9) 98-92 on Sunday. Chiba dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Nagasaki's 38. They outrebounded Nagasaki 41-29 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Chiba looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Leo Lyons (206-1987, college: Missouri) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Takaaki Kida (186-1995) chipped in 21 points. Four Chiba players scored in double figures. American forward Matt Bonds (196-1995, college: St.Michael's) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Spanish Pablo Aguilar (203-1989, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Chiba have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Koshigaya A. Nagasaki at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the second place with 13 games lost. Chiba will meet at home Tokyo Z (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Nagasaki will play against Fukuoka R. (#5) and hope to secure a win.
