Regular Season Round 35: Osaka E. - Hitachi SRT 78-74

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Hitachi SRT (13-19) lost on the road to sixth ranked Osaka E. (17-17) 78-74 on Sunday. Osaka E. made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Hitachi SRT only scored five points from the stripe. Osaka E. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard DJ Newbill (193-1992, college: Penn St.) who led the winners and scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Takuya Hashimoto (186-1994) accounted for 16 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side. American Ryan Kelly (211-1991, college: Duke) came up with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Kevin Jones (206-1989, college: WVU) added 9 points and 14 rebounds respectively for Hitachi SRT in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Osaka E. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Tochigi Brex and Shinshu BW. Loser Hitachi SRT keeps the fifth position with 19 games lost. Osaka E. will meet league's second-placed Alvark Tokyo on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hitachi SRT will play against the league's second-placed Hiroshima D. and hope to secure a win.
