Nineteenth-ranked Sturgeons (3-22) used its home court advantage to challenge thirteenth ranked Jilin Tigers (12-13) in Jinjiang on Wednesday. The visitors from Changchun managed to secure only three-point victory 107-104. However their fans expected much easier game. Jilin Tigers made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Sturgeons outrebounded Jilin Tigers 53-35 including a 23-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The winners were led by American guard Dominique Jones (193-1988, college: S.Florida) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 16 assists and 7 steals (made all of his seven free throws) and center Ang Lee (209-1990) supported him with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 24 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists by Bulgarian-American point guard Darius Adams (188-1989, college: Indianapolis) did not help to save the game for Sturgeons. Guard Guisen Tian (187-1994) added 24 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sturgeons' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Jilin Tigers maintains thirteenth position with 12-13 record. Sturgeons lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth place with 22 games lost. Jilin Tigers will meet higher ranked Ducks (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sturgeons will play against Pioneers (#18) in Tianjin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
