Regular Season Round 23: Guangdong ST - Nanjing TX MK 124-108

There was no surprise in Dongguan where 9th ranked Monkey Kings (11-10) were defeated by second ranked Guandong Tigers (17-3) 124-108 on Monday. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Monkey Kings' 40 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Guandong Tigers forced 19 Monkey Kings turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American MarShon Brooks (197-1989, college: Providence) who scored 31 points and 9 rebounds. The former international Rui Zhao (195-1996) chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American point guard QJ Peterson (183-1994, college: VMI) produced 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Baiqing Zhao (204-1998) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Guandong Tigers and four Monkey Kings players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guandong Tigers have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 17-3 record behind leader Zhejiang GB. Loser Monkey Kings dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Jilin NE T. and Xinjiang FT. Guandong Tigers will meet at home Pioneers (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Monkey Kings will play against the league's leader Golden Bulls (#1) in Hangzhou and hope to secure a win.
