There was a minor upset in Beijing where 15th ranked Royal Fighters (8-11) were outplayed by seventeenth ranked Blue Whales (5-15) 111-89 on Saturday. Blue Whales dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Royal Fighters' 34. They outrebounded Royal Fighters 55-37 including a 38-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Blue Whales looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-1985, agency: BIG) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 21 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Marlain Veal (175-1996, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Trae Golden (189-1991, college: Georgia Tech) responded with 29 points and 7 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and Fan Zhang (195-1996) scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Blue Whales maintains seventeenth position with 5-15 record. Royal Fighters lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with 11 games lost. Blue Whales will meet at home league's leader Golden Bulls in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Royal Fighters will play against Sturgeons (#19) in Jinjiang and hope to secure a win.
