Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Shanan Utd (7-15) was outscored by eighth ranked Gifu (9-13) in Kanagawa 96-72 on Saturday. Gifu dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Shanan Utd's 36. They outrebounded Shanan Utd 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Senegalese power forward Andre Sambou (203-1999) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) supported him with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Gifu players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 22 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists by American forward Chris Olivier (202-1992, college: OK State, agency: Octagon Europe) did not help to save the game for Shanan Utd. Guard Shogo Taira (170-1997) added 28 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 9-13 record. Shanan Utd lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
