Regular Season Round 20: Toyoda - Shizuoka 54-87
Date: December 17, 2022
Very expected game when 10th ranked Toyoda (7-14) was smashed by second ranked Shizuoka (19-2) in Aichi 87-54 on Saturday. Shizuoka dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Toyoda's 32. Shizuoka forced 19 Toyoda turnovers. The winners were led by American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) who scored that evening 16 points and 5 rebounds and Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 18 points. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures. Even 8 points and 9 rebounds by German center Yasin Kolo (208-1992, college: Bellarmine) did not help to save the game for Toyoda. Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (198-1991, college: Missouri, agency: Haylett Sports) added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shizuoka have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kagoshima. Loser Toyoda dropped to the twelfth place with 14 games lost. Shizuoka will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyoda will play again against the league's second-placed Shizuoka (#2) and hope to secure a win.
