Everything went according to plan in Sichuan where fifteenth ranked Royal Fighters (7-7) edged 17th ranked Blue Whales (3-12) 112-109 on Friday. Royal Fighters looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Trae Golden (189-1991, college: Georgia Tech) who scored 29 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Fan Zhang (195-1996) chipped in 22 points and 6 assists. American point guard Marlain Veal (175-1996, college: SE Louisiana) produced a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 12 assists and Zhennian Zuo (201-1996) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Royal Fighters moved-up to fourteenth place. Blue Whales lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Tianjin. Royal Fighters will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Blue Whales will play against the league's second-placed Guandong Tigers (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
