Regular Season Round 17: Saitama - Tokyo Utd 79-68

The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Saitama's (13-5) home victory over 7th ranked Tokyo Utd (10-8) 79-68. Point guard Taketo Kato (178-2000) stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 assists for the winners and American power forward Ryan Watkins (206-1991, college: Boise St., agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Saitama players scored in double figures. American swingman Michael Craig (196-1991, college: Southern Miss) responded with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import Marcus Dove (206-1985, college: OK State) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Saitama. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Okayama. Newly promoted Tokyo Utd keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Saitama will play against bottom-ranked Shinagawa (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Tokyo Utd will play against Iwate (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
