Regular Season Round 11: Shimane SM - Sendai 89ers 92-87

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Sendai 89ers (3-8) were defeated on the road by second ranked Shimane SM (9-2) 92-87 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Shimane SM looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Australian Nick Kay (206-1992, college: MSU Denver) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international guard Seiya Ando (184-1992) chipped in 29 points and 5 assists. American Nathan Boothe (206-1994, college: Toledo) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Four Shimane SM and five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shimane SM have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Ryukyu GK. Sendai 89ers lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with Toyama G. and Hokkaido L.. Shimane SM will meet league's leader Ryukyu GK in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sendai 89ers will play against Kawasaki BT (#3) and hope to secure a win.
