Regular Season Round 11: Tokyo HT - Veertien Mie 77-80

A very close game took place in Tokyo between Veertien Mie and Tokyo HT. Twelfth ranked Veertien Mie (4-8) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Tokyo HT (6-6). Veertien Mie managed to escape with a 3-point win 80-77 on Sunday evening. Veertien Mie outrebounded Tokyo HT 44-32 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Josh Martin (201-1995, college: Santa Clara) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Shuto Mizoguchi (187-1987) accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Four Veertien Mie players scored in double figures. American power forward Justin Baker (203-1989, college: Utah Valley) came up with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Robert Sampson (203-1992, college: Georgia Tech) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Tokyo HT in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Veertien Mie maintains twelfth place with 4-8 record. Loser Tokyo HT keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Veertien Mie will meet at home league's second-placed Kagoshima in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tokyo HT will play against Saitama (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
