Regular Season Round 9: Gifu - Kanazawa 107-95

There was an upset when higher ranked Kanazawa (4-6) was defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Gifu (2-8) 107-95 on Sunday. Gifu made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) who scored 24 points and 9 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Morito Koga (190-1998) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Five Gifu players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Ukrainian point guard Igor Boyarkin (182-1995, agency: BIG) who recorded 25 points, 7 assists and 4 steals and Ukrainian forward Oleksandr Antypov (203-1995, agency: BIG) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gifu maintains fourteenth place with 2-8 record, which they share with Tachikawa. Loser Kanazawa keeps the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Shanan Utd. Gifu will meet higher ranked Yokohama EX (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kanazawa will play against Shanan Utd (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
