Regular Season Round 8: Saitama - Kagoshima 82-86
Date: November 5, 2022
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Kagoshima (8-1) beat on the road 5th ranked Saitama (6-3) 86-82 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kagoshima made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American swingman Anthony Gaines Jr (195-1993, college: LCU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and point guard Aruma Hamada (178-1997) supported him with 10 points and 5 assists. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by American center Will Creekmore (205-1989, college: Missouri St.) did not help to save the game for Saitama. His fellow American import Grant Sitton (206-1993, college: Victoria) added 22 points for the hosts. Five Kagoshima and four Saitama players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kagoshima have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Shizuoka. Loser Saitama dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Kagoshima will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Saitama will play again against the league's second-placed Kagoshima (#2) and hope to secure a win.
