Everything could happen in Sichuan at the game between two tied teams. Both eighteenth ranked Blue Whales and 19th ranked Sturgeons had identical 1-7 record. This time Blue Whales used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Jinjiang 102-93 on Friday night. Blue Whales outrebounded Sturgeons 41-28 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists. The winners were led by Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-1985, agency: BIG) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Tangwen Yuan (184-2000) supported him with 12 points and 11 assists. Even a double-double of 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks by Australian-South Sudanese center Thon Maker (216-1997) did not help to save the game for Sturgeons. Point guard Yiyang Li (181-1998) added 18 points, 16 assists and 4 steals for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blue Whales maintains eighteenth position with 2-7 record. Sturgeons lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth place with eight games lost. Blue Whales will meet at home higher ranked Flying Leopards (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sturgeons will play against Eagles (#11) in Qingdao and hope to win that game.
