There was an upset in Dongguan where higher ranked Pioneers (3-3) were defeated by fourteenth ranked Guandong Tigers (3-2) 99-83 on Sunday. Guandong Tigers outrebounded Pioneers 55-37 including a 41-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Guandong Tigers made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American MarShon Brooks (197-1989, college: Providence) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Center Xin Xu (226-2003) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Guandong Tigers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Brandon Jefferson (175-1991, college: MSU Denver) who recorded 26 points and 5 steals and Taiwanese guard Benson Lin (193-1999, college: Bryant) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Defending champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Beijing RF. Loser Pioneers dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Guandong Tigers will meet bottom-ranked Rockets (#20) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Pioneers will play against Flying Tigers (#12) and hope to secure a win.
