Regular Season Round 7: Yokohama BC - Ibaraki R. 77-84

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Ibaraki R. and 6th ranked Yokohama BC had identical 2-4 record. But Yokohama BC was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Mito 84-77 on Saturday night. Ibaraki R. made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Strangely Yokohama BC outrebounded Ibaraki R. 45-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-1987, college: Detroit) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Atsunobu Hirao (178-1989) accounted for 17 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Ibaraki R. players scored in double figures. American Devin Oliver (204-1992, college: Dayton) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Yuki Kawamura (169-2001) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists respectively for Yokohama BC in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ibaraki R. (3-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Yokohama BC keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Ibaraki R. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yokohama BC will play again against Ibaraki R. (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
