The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixteenth ranked Guandong Tigers' (2-2) home victory over 17th ranked Sharks (1-4) in Dongguan 131-108 on Friday. They outrebounded Sharks 48-29 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guandong Tigers looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. American MarShon Brooks (197-1989, college: Providence) nailed 29 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and the former international Rui Zhao (195-1996) accounted for 12 points and 10 assists. Five Guandong Tigers players scored in double figures. American guard Melo Trimble (190-1995, college: Maryland, agency: Pensack Sports) came up with 35 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international center Zhelin Wang (214-1994) added 23 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Sharks in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to thirteenth place. Sharks lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with four games lost. They share it with Sichuan BW. Guandong Tigers will meet at home higher ranked Pioneers (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sharks will play against Monkey Kings (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
