The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixteenth ranked Long-Lions' (3-3) home victory over 17th ranked Sturgeons (1-5) in Guangzhou 109-78 on Thursday. Long-Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Sturgeons' 28. They outrebounded Sturgeons 44-28 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Long-Lions looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Taiwanese point guard Ying-Chun Chen (182-1993, college: Liberty) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side and the former international Mingzhen Zhu (196-1996) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. Five Long-Lions players scored in double figures. Australian-South Sudanese center Thon Maker (216-1997) came up with 8 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Jianghuai Li (190-1992) added 14 points respectively for Sturgeons in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Long-Lions moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Beijing D. and Shenzhen L. Sturgeons lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the nineteenth position with five games lost. Long-Lions will meet Ducks (#12) in the next round. Sturgeons will play against the league's second-placed Flying Leopards (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
