Regular Season Round 40: Guangdong ST - Beijing RF 109-80

There was no surprise in Dongguan where 13th ranked Royal Fighters (16-19) were crushed by sixth ranked Guandong Tigers (24-11) 109-80. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Royal Fighters' 28. Guandong Tigers forced 20 Royal Fighters turnovers and outrebounded them 57-25 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guandong Tigers players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Rui Zhao (195-1996) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. American swingman Sonny Weems (198-1986, college: Arkansas) contributed with 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American-Austrian swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-1990, college: Virginia, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 21 points and forward Weihao Li (204-1997) added 18 points in the effort for Royal Fighters. Five Guandong Tigers and four Royal Fighters players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 24-11 record. Royal Fighters lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 19 games lost. They share the position with Xinjiang FT. Guandong Tigers will play against Rockets (#19) in Ningbo in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Royal Fighters will play at home against Pioneers (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
