There was a small surprise in Tianjin where fourteenth ranked Pioneers (15-18) smashed 12th ranked Royal Fighters (16-17) 115-93 on Friday. Pioneers made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Pioneers outrebounded Royal Fighters 52-41 including 37 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American point guard Kenny Boynton (188-1991, college: Florida) scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Zikai Meng (205-1996) chipped in 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American-Austrian swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-1990, college: Virginia, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 31 points and the former international center Changdong Yu (206-1991) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pioneers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourteenth position with 15-18 record. Royal Fighters at the other side keep the twelfth place with 17 games lost. Pioneers will meet Rockets (#19) in the next round where they are favorite. Royal Fighters' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beijing Ducks.
