Regular Season Round 43: Kagawa FA - Nishinomiya S. 70-80

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Kagawa FA (24-13) in Takamatsu on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Nishinomiya S. (23-11) 80-70. Nishinomiya S. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kagawa FA's 34. They outrebounded Kagawa FA 44-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Nishinomiya S. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Senegalese center Cheikh Mbodj (208-1987, college: Cincinnati, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-1986) helped adding 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side American guard Terrance Woodbury (201-1987, college: Georgia) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and point guard Takayuki Kodama (166-1992) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nishinomiya S. have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain second place with 23-11 record having fourteen points less than leader Kagawa FA. Kagawa FA lost third consecutive game. They still keep top position with 13 games lost. Nishinomiya S. are looking forward to face Fukuoka R. (#6) at home in the next round. Kagawa FA will play against Kumamoto V. (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
