Regular Season Round 40: Kanazawa - Kagoshima 73-100
Date: February 26, 2022
Very expected game in Ishikawa where 15th ranked Kanazawa (1-31) was crushed by fourth ranked Kagoshima (25-7) 100-73 on Saturday. Kagoshima dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Kanazawa's 28. Kagoshima forced 21 Kanazawa turnovers and outrebounded them 41-28 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Anthony Gaines Jr (195-1993, college: LCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and the other American import forward Christian Cunningham (201-1997, college: JSU) who added 26 points and 4 blocks (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side guard Takuto Kubo (186-1999) responded with 17 points and guard Hikaru Yamashita (187-1997) scored 12 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kagoshima maintains fourth position with 25-7 record. Loser Kanazawa stay dead last with 31 lost games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
