Regular Season Round 36: Ibaraki R. - Toyama G. 85-79

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Ibaraki R. (7-26) beat 7th ranked Toyama G. (14-21) in Mito 85-79 on Sunday. Ibaraki R. made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) who scored that evening 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Eric Jacobsen (208-94, college: Arizona St.) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Ibaraki R. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists by forward Brice Johnson (206-94, college: UNC) did not help to save the game for Toyama G.. Center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) added 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Ibaraki R. maintains tenth position with 7-26 record. Loser Toyama G. keeps the seventh place with 21 games lost. Ibaraki R. will meet Kyoto H. (#10) on the road in the next round. Toyama G. will play against Hitachi SRT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
