Regular Season Round 21: Al Ahli - Al Rayyan 99-79

Bottom-ranked Al Rayyan (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 99-79 loss to fourth ranked Al Ahli (6-2) in Doha. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 40. They outrebounded Al Rayyan 44-26 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Ahli players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. It was a good game for American forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-88, college: Charleston, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American-Bulgarian guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, agency: Network Sports International) contributed with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Al Ahli's coach Panagiotis Foteinakis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-92, college: Texas) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists and international center Meho Haracic (213-98) added 29 points in the effort for Al Rayyan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Al Ahli. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Shamal. Al Rayyan lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
