Regular Season Round 32: Shizuoka - Saitama 83-87
Date: January 29, 2022
There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Saitama (17-10) beat on the road 5th ranked Shizuoka (17-8) 87-83 on Saturday. They outrebounded Shizuoka 43-28 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Saitama looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American power forward Ryan Watkins (206-91, college: Boise St., agency: Slash Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import center Will Creekmore (205-89, college: Missouri St.) supported him with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-88, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Shizuoka. Beninese power forward Muusa Dama (207-96, college: EIU, agency: Blacktop Management) added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Four Saitama and five Shizuoka players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Saitama have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 17-10 record. Loser Shizuoka keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Okayama. Saitama will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shizuoka will play again against Saitama (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
