Regular Season Round 27: Yamaguchi - Shinagawa 90-74

Rather expected game when 14th ranked Shinagawa (2-24) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Yamaguchi (8-18) 90-74. Yamaguchi shot 27 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Shinagawa only scored six points from the stripe. Shinagawa was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Robert Sampson (203-92, college: Georgia Tech) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. His fellow American import center Nicholas Evans (210-88, college: S.Indiana) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Sampson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Abu Philip (198-97) came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds and guard Shogo Taira (170-97) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Shinagawa in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yamaguchi moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Yokohama EX. Shinagawa lost their twentieth game in a row. Shinagawa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth position with 24 games lost. Yamaguchi will play against higher ranked Saitama (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Shinagawa will play against Iwate (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
