Regular Season Round 26: Yamaguchi - Shinagawa 76-75

Fourteenth-ranked Shinagawa (2-23) was very close to win a game against thirteenth ranked Yamaguchi (7-18) on Saturday. Yamaguchi managed to secure only one-point victory 76-75. However their fans expected easier game. Yamaguchi forced 20 Shinagawa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Robert Sampson (203-92, college: Georgia Tech) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the other American import center Nicholas Evans (210-88, college: S.Indiana) supported him with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Sampson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 21 points and 18 rebounds by forward Abu Philip (198-97) did not help to save the game for Shinagawa. Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (198-91, college: Missouri, agency: Haylett Sports) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Yamaguchi moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Yokohama EX. Shinagawa lost nineteenth consecutive game. Shinagawa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth position with 23 games lost. Yamaguchi will again meet at home Shinagawa (#14) in the next round. Shinagawa will have a break next round.
