Regular Season Round 24: Kagoshima - Yamaguchi 86-62
Date: January 1, 2022
Very expected game in Renova where 11th ranked Yamaguchi (6-17) was crushed by third ranked Kagoshima (18-5) 86-62 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kagoshima made 7 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Christian Cunningham (201-97, college: JSU) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Swingman Anthony Gaines Jr (195-93, college: LCU) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Nicholas Evans (210-88, college: S.Indiana) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks and forward Robert Sampson (203-92, college: Georgia Tech) added 9 points and 18 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kagoshima have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 18-5 record having just three points less than leader Nagasaki. Yamaguchi lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Yokohama EX. Kagoshima will again meet at home Yamaguchi (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Yamaguchi will have a break next round.
