Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Blue Whales (4-12) lost to eleventh ranked Royal Fighters (9-7) in Beijing 83-91 on Friday. Royal Fighters forced 22 Blue Whales turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Fan Zhang (195-96) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American-Austrian swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 27 points for the winning side. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85, agency: BIG) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) and forward Dianliang Zhang (200-97) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Blue Whales in the defeat. Four Royal Fighters and five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Royal Fighters moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Shandong H. Loser Blue Whales keep the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Xinjiang FT. Royal Fighters will meet at home higher ranked Golden Bulls (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blue Whales will play against Flying Tigers (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
