Regular Season Round 15: Osaka E. - Hiroshima D. 86-78

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked Hiroshima D. (9-7) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Osaka E. (7-9) 86-78 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) who scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Osaka E.'s coach Kensaku Tennichi used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Venezuelan center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Nick Mayo (206-97, college: EKU, agency: Pensack Sports) added 25 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Osaka E.. They maintain seventh place with 7-9 record, which they share with Hokkaido L. Loser Hiroshima D. dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Osaka E. will again meet at home higher ranked Hiroshima D. (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hiroshima D. will have a break next round.
