Regular Season Round 9: Al Wakrah - Al Khor 83-59

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Wakrah as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Wakrah smashed 5th ranked Al Khor at home 83-59. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Khor. American swingman Brandon Spearman (191-91, college: Hawaii) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and international forward Abdelrahman Abdelhaleem (205-96) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Wakrah players scored in double figures. Al Wakrah's coach Ihab Galal felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Jeff Newberry (188-92, college: OK State) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and center Aladji Bobo Magassa (206-0) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Al Wakrah have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Al Khor at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
