Regular Season Round 8: Al Rayyan - Al Wakrah 77-97

Bottom-ranked Al Rayyan is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their third consecutive match to third ranked Al Wakrah (3-1) 97-77. Al Wakrah dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 34. They outrebounded Al Rayyan 43-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Al Wakrah players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American Julius Coles Jr (193-89, college: Canisius) who helped to win the game recording 31 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import swingman Brandon Spearman (191-91, college: Hawaii) who added 24 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Al Wakrah's coach Ihab Galal allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-92, college: Texas) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and American Tavarion Nix (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) scored 27 points and 7 rebounds. Al Wakrah keeps a position of league leader. Al Rayyan at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Qatar Club. Al Wakrah will play against Al Khor (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Al Rayyan will have a break next round.
